Private-label free weights: what to send a factory to get an accurate OEM quote in 48 hours

The eight things a manufacturer needs to price a private-label dumbbell, plate or kettlebell order, and the questions that delay a quotation when they are missing.

Private-label free weights: what to send a factory to get an accurate OEM quote in 48 hours

Most OEM quotation delays are not caused by the factory. They are caused by an enquiry that says "please quote your best price for dumbbells with our logo" and nothing else. Here is what a manufacturer needs to reply with a real number, in the order that avoids back-and-forth.

1. Product list with weights

Line, construction and every weight in the set. "Rubber hex dumbbells 2.5–40 kg in 2.5 kg steps, 3 sets" is a quotable line. "Dumbbells" is not.

2. Coating material

Urethane, TPU, rubber, vinyl or chrome. This decides tooling, price tier and lead time, and it should match across dumbbells, plates and kettlebells in the same range.

3. Logo artwork and placement

Vector artwork (AI, EPS or SVG). State where it goes: end cap, plate face, kettlebell body, sewn panel. Moulded logos need a mould per size; printed logos do not. The factory can only tell you the tooling cost once it knows which.

4. Colour references

A Pantone number, or a physical sample. "Dark red" produces three sample rounds; "Pantone 186 C" produces one.

5. Weight marking

Kilograms, pounds or both. Imperial sets have different weight steps and different moulds.

6. Quantity or container target

Either a unit count or "fill one 20ft container across this list". The second is often more useful because the factory can optimise the mix against the payload.

7. Destination port and Incoterm

FOB, CIF or DDP, and the port. Without this the freight figure cannot be included in the comparison.

8. Packaging

Bulk export carton, pair box, or retail packaging with your barcode. Retail packaging changes the carton dimensions and therefore the container loading.

What happens next

With those eight items, a quotation with price, MOQ, tooling, lead time and container loading can be returned within one working day. Sampling follows artwork approval and normally takes two to three weeks. Send the list to [email protected] or use the quotation form on any page of this site.
